The Hale Centre Theatre is seeking an experienced Technical Director to oversee the implementation of the technical aspects of assigned productions. The position will provide leadership and strategic direction throughout the entire lifecycle of projects, ensuring the seamless integration of technology and artistry while maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability and efficiency. The position will be based in Sandy, UT at the Hale Centre Theatre.


Responsibilities

The Technical Director will be responsible for leading the execution of all technical elements of assigned productions, ensuring the creative vision is accurately realized. Responsibilities include:


  • Strategic oversight and project management from concept to completion.

  • Concept refinement, feasibility assessment, design development, and production management.

  • Creation of tender packages, vendor selection, and manufacturing oversight.

  • Coordination of installation, scheduling, testing, and commissioning of technical elements.

  • Collaboration with creative teams to develop innovative technical solutions.

  • Overseeing final delivery and operation of production and maintenance elements.

  • Advising on the feasibility and technical specifications of equipment and systems.

  • Troubleshooting during rehearsals and performances.

  • Staying up to date on emerging trends and technologies in the industry.


Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of theatrical construction techniques, materials, and industrial technologies.

  • Experience with pneumatic systems, AC/DC electrical theory, and theatrical rigging.

  • Strong problem-solving, time management, and critical thinking skills.

  • Effective leadership skills, fostering a collaborative environment.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and meet tight deadlines.

  • Knowledge of CAD software (Fusion360, Vectorworks, or Solidworks).

  • Experience with audio, lighting, video, and show control systems.

  • Commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency.

  • Ability to work at heights greater than 75 feet


Education and Experience

  • College degree in Technical Theatre or equivalent experience.

  • At least five years of experience in professional or touring theatre.
